Woodruff is also known as Master of the Wood, has a really pleasant smell and once upon a time was dried and placed between linens to keep them clear and free of any nibbly insects. According to Cunningham in his Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, Woodruff is said to guard against harm when carried in a leather pouch (much like a medicine pouch). Used quite often as a bath tea herb for use in cleansing and protecting yourself from harm or mis-deeds.

It is also used in magick related to money, prosperity and victory, best combined with other resins or herbs associated with money and burnt as incense or placed in a money jar.

As a herb of spring it is used to purify your space after being holed up all WInter, to release the drabness that being indoors brings. If looking to turn your life around, then use this herb to change your outlook on life. Add to May wine (a traditional Witch’s brew) and drink on Beltane Eve.

Time to turn over a new leaf, a change is needed to move on? Then use this herb during times of transition when you need a little strength to get through it.
