So, yes…I like being in the country. When Spring has sprung there’s me with wellies on foraging about for natural wonders, finding those bits that have been used through the centuries for folk and traditional healing. This year I got my bum in gear and made a small range of totally natural salves for your ails. A little goes a long way with this, so each 30ml tin should last a little while when used sparingly.

The plants used in these salves have been foraged from my own paddock and garden (no animals there, other than a few wild rabbits, normal insect life and birds) which is totally organic. NO pesticides, NO chemical treatments and the like are used on my land. Free to grow, just having a “haircut” with the tractor mower when it gets a little too long. The plants are hand dried, hand processed and sorted, home infused and created using only natural ingredients. NO yucky stuff is added, no scent, no colours- just plain natural oils, cocoa butter and soy wax…meaning these little beauts are Vegan friendly.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil - plants and petals are infused into extra virgin olive oil, a rich and fruity oil full of antioxidants, luxuriously rich and super skin supportive - which is why I used this instead of another oil; such as grapeseed for example, as these plants have excellent skin supportive qualities - especially for those with really dry or itchy skin conditions.

Cocoa Butter - another super nourisher! Used not only to make the salve a little firmer, but is a great emollient, leaving a soft and gentle silk like feel to your skin. Packed full too of antioxidants to relieve the stresses placed on the skin everyday.

Soy Wax - Not only did I want these to be Vegan Friendly, omitting the usual beeswax as a hardener, I still needed a light layer to be left on the skin to “trap” the goodness in and support the skin. So opted for a sustainable alternative, it does give a slightly more grainy finish than some plant based waxes, but it does just melt right in, leaving a softening yet not overly greasy finish when you put it on.

So what’s in store from natures bounty??

Dandelion: Ahhh the dandeflums, those little wee yellow tufts that arrive in the spring…being the scourge of gardeners throughout the lands! However, they are given a bad rap, as the whole plant has been used for medicinal purposes through the centuries. Not only do the heads give the most awesome natural colouration to the salve, but possesses various natural goodies, in that it is skin nurturing and nourishing for a variety of skin conditions. Whilst also having anti-inflammatory properties that is used in folk healing for ailments like joint or muscle pain and arthritis.

Ingredients: Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion Flower) Infused Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit OilHydrogenated Soy Bean OilTheobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter. (Yup, that’s it!)

Plantain: You may remember playing with these as a child, when they were flowering trying to knock the “head” off your opponents plantain flower? Known as nature’s band aid, it was used moons ago for wrapping wounds as a make shift poultice. The leaves are mildly astringent, but is useful for applying to scratches and small abrasions to help the healing process. Of there’s a midge or two, or the dreaded horsefly that likes to nip you, popping this on the bite should soothe and relieve itchiness…same too for rashes such as heat rash (however always get suspicious or weird rashes checked out please!). It’s ability to soothe and reduce pain and swelling make it a fab add to a natural first aid kit. Its rich deep green colour comes from the dried leaves being infused into olive oil.

Ingredients: Plantago lanceolata (Plantain) Leaf Infused, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Hydrogenated Soy Bean Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter. (Erm…yup, that’s it!)

Dandelion & Plantain: The awesome double combo! Using both the above mentioned plant infused oils in a super..dare I say it..healing salve. Anti-inflammatory properties of both oils, teamed with nourishing properties are a must for bumps, bites n scrapes and icky dry bits.

Ingredients: Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion Flower) Infused Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Plantago lanceolata (Plantain) Leaf Infused Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Hydrogenated Soy Bean Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter

Rose & Lavender: Another combo, with the kind and gentle assistance of dried rose and lavender petals. Rose through the centuries has been added to a variety of cosmetics and skin care products. Chocked full of vitamins to help ageing skins and antioxidants, is especially good for dry skin conditions, with mildly astringent properties to help reduce redness and inflammation. Again, lavender has been used not only for its scent in traditional uses, but is the first oil to be “discovered” as an essential oil. Of course through time immemorial the prize that is lavender, was well known through various cultures. Lavender is often used for its skin calming and soothing properties fighting against redness, as well as being supportive to burns, itchy skin conditions such as bites and rashes. Another one for older skins to help even out the skin and for popping onto  scabby bits to assist with reducing scarring.

Ingredients: Lavandula Augustifolia Officinalis (Lavender) Flower and Rosa centifolia (Rose) Petal Infused Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Plantago lanceolata (Plantain) Leaf Infused Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Hydrogenated Soy Bean Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter.

Each balm is supplied in 30ml re-sealable tins.
