Used as a natural/ alternative therapy…just make sure you check with your Dr first please…has been used as a tea to fight cold and flu symptoms, as a tonic to reduce tension and anxiety, pain relief by way of the tea or as a poultice to fight infections in skin issues. Said to improve memory, concentration and to improve mood. Wood betony was used in European folk herbalism as a remedy for respiratory tract inflammation, heartburn, urinary tract inflammation. It was considered a calming remedy and was used for headaches as well as some forms of neuralgia, including shingles.
Druids used this herb to protect against evil spirits, fearful visions and nightmares (place in a sachet under your pillow to prevent nightmares). Carry with you to prevent despair, guard your home with a protective “wall” by sprinkling around doors and windows. Stems quarrels between loved ones and reunites them - when added to food. Use in any protective and purifying spell charm, bottle , sachet or incense. Burn in Summer Solstice fires ( or in your simmer pot/ cauldron) and waft the cleansing steam/ smoke to purify your space.
Apparently carrying it on you whilst on a night out protects you from intoxication….but have yet to witness this kind of power over a gin and tonic. Also a cure for “elf-sickness” - a mysterious medieval illness.
