One that has been used through the ages for various medicinal purposes. When collected fresh, it’s leaves and stems release red coloured sap, which is why the oil of St Johns Wort is red in colour and why there was strong belief in its ability to heal wounds. It is used in alternative therapies to disperse melancholy (that’s depression to you and I), known by action as an anti-depressant, anti-viral and sedative. It can increase sensitivity to sunlight, which can help during Winter months to control Seasonal Affective Disorder (SASD) but should ideally be avoided in the Summer months as it can cause increased likelihood of sunburn and sun blemishes. Used as an anti-inflammatory for arthritis and gout, it can be applied topically or used as a tea. Used as a topical treatment - such as within a poultice is said to relieve pain of a variety of conditions from sciatica to burns and other inflammatory skin issues.
Magickally it was once used to treat fevers and colds, when it was hung around the neck.
When burnt, use as a tool for exorcisms in order to banish unwanted spirits
A herb to use when you need to win a battle - whether it be one of words or lawful ones.
To strengthen ones will, to give the drive to succeed, wear within a pouch or carry on your person
Use to ward against negative energies within the home by placing in a jar by a window - according to Cunningham it protects against thunderbolts, fire and evil spirits - I guess you can include those who carry negativity and those you just generally don’t want around your house!

I must, as a good lil’ witchy woo advise you not to consume unless you have spoken with your GP first. St Johns Wort interacts and is contraindicated with sooooo many medications I cannot list them all, including a number of female contraceptives! If you choose to consume, Spirit Esoterica (aka me!) does not take responsibility for any adverse interactions you may have. Soz guys, but have to add this!
