I don’t know about you, but I love a candle..or two…or three!! These candles have been chosen because 1) they don’t contain paraffin so are more eco-friendly 2) have around a 20hr burn time, making them good value for money 3) reusable glass jar and cork for your witchy makings after its burnt 4) really fab fragrance which is released evenly throughout burning 5) as a thrifty witch I feel they can be used with magickal intention. Even if you aren’t into the magickal side of things, these soy candles are wonderfully scented, to fill your home with fragrance. Soybean candles burn cleaner, cooler and last longer than paraffin candles and also leave minimal wax residue.

So as a witchy woo, I can’t just label the candles as their scent alone….as they aren’t just for making your home or space smell wonderful, you can work a little Magick too, especially if you’re in the “broom closet” about your witchery.

Lavender: Calming, relaxing and centring, Lavender is quite well known for its mildly sedating effects and quite often used to aid sleep, so could be a useful one to burn an hour or so before bed…don’t forget to snuff it out before you intend to sleep! It is a masculine energy herb, related to the element of air and associated with Mercury and sign Virgo & Gemini. Deities linked with this herb are Hecate and Saturn. Magickal attributes are associated with clairvoyance, so may also assist lucid and prophetic dreaming. Ideal for the third eye chakra during meditation to open your mind, promote love, instil tranquility and spirituality. Burn during spell work to sharpen your mind and focus.

In short: Magick: Sleep,Meditation, Clairvoyance. Consecration. Cleansing, Healing, Psychic Ability. Focus.

Element: Air

Planet: Mercury

Gender: Masculine

Sign: Virgo

Deities: Hecate & Saturn

Musk: Is an age old perfume which has developed overtime and no longer requires animal input-having been originally harvested from Musk Deer glands! The musk of modern times thankfully arises from a plant called Ambrette. A deep, woody, grounding scent which is useful for keeping the Root (1st) Chakra in check, especially if you’ve been neglecting your grounding activities!

Violet: Are actually considered to be a bit of a pest in gardens, but I love them. They remind me of my grandparents home when I was a child, I’m a Devonshire Dumpling and Devonshire Violets are considered some of the best and were historically and even now today used for flavourings and perfume! Parma Violets anyone(?) and bring back happy memories. Violets are considered to be linked with the element Water, Venus and are unsurprisingly feminine in nature. In some old transcriptions were used to protect one from “wyked sperytis” - spirits in other words, but I feel due to its high scent would work well against any such negative energy, so would be worth burning any time in any space where negativity needs blocking. Affording a change in luck, may be burnt during times when you may be down on yours and when change towards the better needs to happen, so may prove useful when conducting Magick of this kind. In Ancient Greece, violets were used to calm the temper and relax into sleep, perhaps if you are still working from home burning this candle may induce a bit of calm when your computer decides to crash or the Zoom meeting isn’t going as planned! Other lore suggests it was used as a cure for dizziness and headaches. It has also been used as a wish talisman…by picking the first violet you see in Spring, your dearest wish be granted…ok so we don’t have a real violet, but as we integrate the old ways and the new, perhaps worth burning when casting positive intention and wish Magick. When used and especially when combined with Lavender (also available!), instils love and lust.

Jasmine: Moon based magicking with this floral wonder. Jasmine is ruled by the Moon and said to attract spiritual love and used in spells or magick regarding money or wealth. It’s scent is said to inspire prophetic dreaming and induce sleep. Use as a means to carry the strength of your feminine deities, such as Selene, Diana, Freya, Vishnu, Isis etc. As it is ruled by the Moon, it makes sense to use its powers such as conducting magick related to its attributes on a full moon.

In short: Spiritual love. Money. Prophetic Dreams. Love. Moon Magick

Element: Water

Planet: Moon

Gender: Feminine

Deities: Selene, Eros/Cupid, Freya, Diana, Vishnu, Isis, Mani, Nanna, Nerthus, Sif

Day: Monday for Moon Magick related to prophetic dreams and sleep. Thursday for attracting wealth and money. Friday for love.

Rose: A feminine energy, the Goddess Isis is tied to this flower (as a goddess of life, beauty and Magick) whose hieroglyph depicts a doorway or portal signifying a gateway to knowledge and higher power. Other deities include; Aphrodite, Eros and Adonis, not forgetting Venus who this flower is also ruled by. It’s element is water and sign Libra. Often associated with love and lust these are commonly used in love or attraction spells, but it also serves its purpose as a self-heal flower, to bring back a little love to yourself if you have neglected your own self care and happiness. Unleash your inner beauty and infinite feminine wiles, burn to bring you a bit of lustful power to your energies. It can be used to invoke Goddess or used in healing spells. If you lack confidence, happiness or luck then burn during spells concerning these issues.

In short: Magick: Love/Lust, Confidence, Luck, Beauty, Psychic Power, Healing, Portal, Happiness.

Sign: Libra

Deities: Isis, Aphrodite, Adonis, Eros, Venus, Aset, Heimdall, Idunna, Nanna, Nehallennia, Nerthus, Sif, Sigyn, Sjofna

Apple & Cinnamon: A wintry, warming scent, but how about using as an abundance candle? Both Apple and cinnamon are linked to abundance and prosperity. Apple is associated with the Element Water, feminine in nature and the ruling planet Venus. Commonly used during the Autumn months, especially Samhain as apples are considered “food of the dead” and this celebration is sometimes known as the Feast of Apples. Burning this candle could be used to honour those who have passed. Whilst it’s links with the spiritual realm are known, it is also used quite heavily in love and healing Magick with numerous spells associated. Abundance comes by way of being some of the final fruits of Autumn to be harvested, giving nourishment as the year turns colder and wetter. Also associated with healing, Cinnamon on the other hand is fiery and masculine in nature, with the Sun as it’s ruling “planet”. The oil and leaves were used in ancient times to anoint and decorate spiritual places and items and when burnt is said to raise spiritual and psychic vibrations. Also associated with lust and fiery passions. As stated previously, cinnamon is also used in prosperity Magick, giving a quick turn around in fortune. It is also used for protection Magick with its ability to “burn” through negativity with its fiery attributes.

So this combo candle has a variety of uses, but I feel the main attributes are heavily linked with Balance (Elements of Fire & Water- Yin/Yang), Prosperity & Abundance, Spiritual Quests & Psychic Workings - especially during Spirit Work, Love & Lust, Samhain. Although they are of opposing elements, they do actually share correspondences, just varying in approach.

Honeysuckle: Honeysuckle graces many a garden with its nectary fragrance and cheery blooms of ivory, pink, and yellow. This flower is said to attract friends, bring in luck, and sustain love in the home where it grows, so taking these attributes on board, is a nice one to burn everyday to bring and sustain love in the home. It is apparently liked by Faeries, and is essential if you wish to court their presence in your home! Magickally, Honeysuckle is used for all manner of “sweetening” spells. Its specialties are workings to enhance love and sexuality, but is also cultivated for good luck and prosperity. It can be used to all spells of gain to add a touch of sweetness to their energy. Like most heady florals, Honeysuckle has folkloric associations with psychic vision and dreaming. The fragrance and eye-catching colour of Honeysuckle make it primarily a Venus flower. (Some writers have attributed it to Jupiter, which also makes sense because Honeysuckle grows like crazy and is supposed to bring luck. There’s a dash of Lunar energy in there, too.) Honeysuckle’s green smell and hidden nectar imply a correspondence with Water, but some also assign it to Earth. It doesn’t matter, really, as long as you remember this is one sweet and loving flower.

Element: Water/ Earth

Planet: Venus (or Jupiter depending on what you read)

Gender: Female

Deities: Fae, Cerridwen, Venus, Aphrodite, Isis

The candle wicks are made from a small amount  of paraffin wax and cotton. Pots measure approximately 7cm x 5.5cm x 5.5cm. As soybean burns a little differently to your standard candles, when burning your soywax candle for longer period it is Important to allow the candle to burn for approximately 2 hours at the beginning to allow your candle to create its initial “memory burn”. This will increase the scent throw and a full melt pool of wax. Always try to keep the wick in the centre.
