This is a great value pack containing Desert Sage, Californian White Sage and Yerba Santa, which have all been sourced via indigenous peoples of America. I've popped a brief identification of the uses of what's included in the pack.
Desert Sage is a common herb used for smudging, normally for cleansing purposes and to rid unwanted or negative energies. Also known as Grandmother Sage it is used in ritual ceremonies, house cleansing, or simply for the pleasure of its fragrance. Utilised by Native Americans for thousands of years for cleansing, purifying ones self and others as well as an area of space through the technique of smudging.
- Ward off bad feelings and influences.
- Used for cleansing of negative energy or exorcism.
California White Sage - These smudging items are made from the silver-white leaves of the Salvia apiana plant which is native to the coast of California. Considered to be a sacred herb, it is often used during purification ceremonies and to provide a positive vibe to your space. Often used for clearing away negative energies and attracting the positive. Smudge or burn sage when you require knowledge/ guidance in difficult decisions. Most sages are used to promote wisdom and bring in good luck. It builds emotional strength and may help to heal grief. Sage possesses the reputation for wisdom, protection and good luck, cast it squarely into the bounds of Jupiter. Like that most paternal of planets, its energy brings prosperity and guards over the home. However, it is noted by some to possess Moon like qualities, often having a white or blue-gray cast and is associated with the wisdom of the Crone. Magickally, Sage is associated with protection and the granting of wishes. It appears in countless spells of kitchen witchery, especially those stemming from European traditions.
Yerba Santa is yet another quite widely used for smudging purposes, as well as its medicinal qualities with Native American culture. A useful smudge for healing purposes. According to Cunningham, it is carried for spiritual strength, to increase psychic power and to protect the bearer. This doesn't mean you have to carry this bundle around your neck obviously, but you can burn it to instil these powers. Metaphysically infusions are made to attain beauty.
Each pack contains one of each herb listed above in separate bundles, measuring approximately 4". In case you get a bit stuck as to which one is which (if you're a bit new to smudging) the Desert sage has finer leaves and a bit more "twiggy", the white sage is probably the easiest to identify with its grey/white colouration and the Yerba Santa has a whitish grey underside and a darker blackish upper.
To Use: Light the bulb (may take a few attempts) and blow to create smoky embers. If the smudge stick produces a flame, lightly dampen the flame off in your receptacle until it just smokes. Then when it is producing smoke, waft the smoke around your space to cleanse. It is always best to set an intention whilst smudging and cleansing to increase the effect.
