Aronia (aka Choke) berries have become known as one of the “super berries” in more recent times, but These small, black berries have been a quite important part of Native American cultures for generations. Native Americans used to consume them to fight off the common cold and flu, but recent studies state that these berries are capable of curing many more ailments.
These underrated berries have fantastic health benefits, a rich source of vitamins A, C, and E as well as minerals such as potassium, manganese, magnesium, zinc, and iron. Place in boiling hot water for a minimum of ten minutes if you wish to reconstitute them until they have plumped and become soft, or use as part of a tea mix.
Magickally can be used in binding and protection. These dark black berries can be used to make a binding bead thread (either drill or pierce a small hole or plump up slightly to thread and leave to dry again somewhere warm). Binding beads can be used the same way as mala beads, except instead of a repeated prayer or affirmation, its a repeated bind. Use red or black embroiders thread.
You can also make protection oil, the hot method maybe best for this one to allow expansion of the berries. Add to a plant based oil and gently heat for a few minutes. Allow to cool and pop into a jar, charge it with your intention. Store somewhere dark and cool for a few weeks, giving a little shake every now and then. Use to anoint candles, yourself, add to spell jars.
Crush in a pestle and mortar and use as incense, or add to tea blends for protection prior to workings…also good for your health too!
