Palo Santo (or Holy Wood) is the Spanish name for the Bursera graveolens found growing natively in Mexico and South America. This special tree is widely used for folk medicine and claimed to rid and cleanse spaces of negative energy and bestow good luck when burned.
According to tradition, in ancient times shamans and healers already knew the medicinal benefits of Palo Santo and wisely used it to relieve sicknesses such as flu, allergies, headaches and bone problems. Indigenous cultures made use of the wood in a rustic way. Today, much more aesthetically Palo Santo incense is made, that once burned produces smoke that cleanses and purifies the environment from germs, bacteria, evil spirits, bad vibes, and other negative forces.
Palo Santo is widely enjoyed for its energetically cleansing and healing properties. It is a strong remedy that has been popularised for its heavenly presence in keeping energies grounded and clear. It creates a pleasant refreshing smoulder and provides and uplifting scent to lift your vibration in preparation for meditation, allowing for a deeper connection to the source of all creation.
In the essence of Palo Santo is the guayaheretico acid, responsible for pain relief. This also acts on the human endocrine system, promoting the secretion of certain hormones, such as dopamine and endorphins, allowing problems to treat depression, feelings of abandonment, stress and others. With all the above mentioned we should give a chance to Palo Santo, we lose nothing by trying this natural remedy.
Traditional Palo Santo Wood Sticks
When burnt the wood produces a wonderful scent, due to the high composition of essential oils. You can use this wood as an incense or as a smudging stick to cleanse your space before rituals, clear your crystals, spell/ Magick work or perhaps during meditation. Hold a piece slightly upside down and light the tip until there is a small flame. After around 1 minute, blow out the flame so only smoke is produced and in a fireproof bowl, blowing gently on the embers when required.
