So to celebrate and the fact I had new crystals delivered for the store, I thought I might give a brief introduction to the concepts of cleansing and clearing your crystals. On this site I offer genuine crystal and gemstones, these have all been sourced for authenticity from reputable sources.

Many of the crystals we buy have been mined, traveled far and been handled numerous times. This energy has a tendency to transmute to our beloved bits of rock and stone which can sometimes mess with their vibrations. It is normally advised to cleanse, clear, recharge, set intentions and store when not in use.

Cleanse and clear:

Quartz based stones can tolerate being submerged in water, such is the case for our clear quartz, agates, Jade’s, citrines and the like. Wash your stone under running water to rid dust and debris it may have picked up along the way. Ideally done in natural water sources such as a river, but those of us who are urban bound this may cause an issue! If this is the case then water hardy crystals may be submerged in water overnight (perhaps on a windowsill in the light of the moon) to rid any unwanted energy.

There are some crystals that do not do well in water, for example Desert Rose, Halite, Himalayan Salt (Salt Lamps), Malachite and Selenite as well as ores, or iron laden minerals like hematite as it can cause oxidisation. These  can be placed in a glass to protect it, which is then placed into a bowl of water. Some people also like to cleanse their stones in dry brown rice overnight, with the rice disposed of (not eaten!).

If you don’t fancy these ideas then smudging is another great way to cleanse them using white sage incense or smudge sticks, which are available in this store. Just pass the stones through the smoke intending unwanted energies to dissipate.

Once cleared, it is time to charge!

Charging:

Many like to use the power of the full moon to charge (and cleanse) their crystals, which is ideal for those crystals that fade in sunlight such as rose quartz and amethyst. These can be placed outside (I like to lay them in a plant pot or hang from a tree for an extra earthy vibe) during a full moon and bought in before the sun’s rays hit them.

Some stones tolerate the sun and thrive, especially red, yellow and orange ones like carnelian, sunstone and citrine, however don’t leave them too long as it cause them to fade. Ones especially vulnerable are the coloured quartzes with examples including Amethyst, Ametrine, Apophyllite Green, Aquamarine, Auralite23, Celestite, Citrine, Fluorite, Hiddenite, Kunzite, Opal (will dry out), Prasiolite, Rose Quartz, Smoky Quartz, Spirit Quartz, Topaz and Turquoise (this list is not Exhaustative).

Setting intention

Most things need direction and the same can be said with crystals. A good way to start is to meditate with the crystal in order for it to attune to you. You can carry them with you, simply hold whilst visualising or stating the intention. If small enough you can place under your pillow as you sleep. Even singing can raise your crystal’s vibration.

Storing

For crystals that are not worn, keep them safe in a box and try to keep all the same crystals together. I use black velvet bags to keep them from absorbing any other energies and secure them in a wooden box. All of which I sell on this store.

I hope this helps, as I said it is just a brief overview but there are many great crystal books and plenty of info online. Some great ones include the Crystal Bible Series by Judy Hall.

Happy Learning and blessings!
